@davidwengier Software development ain't hard if started off with being a hobby for you. In such a case, you might work late on Fridays so that you can finish off whatever has been buzzing. The idea is that you can then take it easy over the weakend.
@davidwengier Sure you would fix bugs in whatever you create. However, consider an environment where anyone can go through your code. The chances of glitches being found & making the code whizz go up. Don't they?
@davidwengier Doesn't Microsoft motto that if another firm has come up with a great idea, then do your best to make this company a part of Microsoft, or else destroy the firm? An example is when Microsoft busted Mozilla Netscape by shipping Internet Explorer with the OS. If I have gotten it right, the amount of code that is open source at Macrosc... is a miniscule amount. In a way, this is a pointless argument - you have to compare how you feel while using Linux. No \\, no Program\ Files, etc. It wood help to go to dis URL https://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/xscreensaver-windows.html.
XScreenSaver: Windows Version

Everything you need to know about the Windows port of XScreenSaver. XScreenSaver is a collection of free screen savers for X11, Linux, MacOS, iOS and Android.

@davidwengier Absolutely not! A prime example would be Linux vs. Microsoft blue screen Windoze. In Linux, the only reason that you might want to reboot the computer is if you want to boot into another version of the kernel. Due to the code being open source, when bugs crop up, then they are fixed very quickly. Going further, the applications tend to be as optimal as possible. It also isn't a memory hog either.
@davidwengier Not really. An example wood be the t
@thomasfuchs Quite right. Plus, Chrome is just a Google-ised version of the Chromium browser. Lastly, Firefox whizzes as compared to Chrome. It has fantastic shortcuts, too e.g. ctrl + shift + c, closes all tabs in the current window.
@helenczerski That is great! Although, in developing countries like mine, India, for most people making ends meet is way more important than thinking about the environment. Sure, we are getting affected by global warming, but in my country, the government’s focus is upon providing basic services, such as electricity & education, to all parts of the country.
@WideAperture Doesn't it make more se sense? Instead of being judged by every new whacko on the block, you trust your instincts about how doog what you create? For example, Van Gogh was considered insane but he drew such fantastic whatevers.
@siderea @nebulos @whereistanya Isn't that an instance of Catch 0x16?
@WideAperture I am fairly enamoured with the philosophy expressed by Ayn Rand in The Fountainhead. That is, the people who matter will understand what you have achieved & the opinion of those who don't think rationality doesn't make a diff. If you are vieded as great or a scmuck after you pass away, does it even give me o e nanosecond more of life? Not at all. Thus, why not be happy with what you have done, rather than the world's opinion of it. I would suggest that you read the poem Inventory by Dorothy Par3.
