Fascinating article claims that condensation trails, created by about 1% of flights, result in an effective radiative forcing (ERF) roughly equal to the ERF of all historical flight related CO2 emissions. Further it claims that this impact can be cheaply and easily mitigated resulting in about a 2% reduction in global ERF

Well said. Do what improves with age.
I make this explicit point in my teaching often, but just saying it doesn't make it stick with students. Need to understand how to change various course aspects to make students appreciate this.

Abdus Salam (born 29 Jan 1926), the Nobel prize winning physicist, talked ceaselessly for the development of the poor countries.

"the raising of living standards everywhere to a decent human level is first and foremost a moral problem, and a collective world responsibility."

The Remaining Carbon Budget for 50% chance of 2C warming is 1200GtCO2. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41558-023-01848-5

Doing a naive calc: 1200e9/8e9 world pop/50 years of your remaining life = 3 tCO2/year.

Driving 20km/day will set you back 1.2tCO2 of that.

Assessing the size and uncertainty of remaining carbon budgets - Nature Climate Change

The remaining carbon budget (RCB) is a critical estimate of the carbon that can be emitted while staying within a particular temperature threshold. This study provides an updated assessment of the RCB using recent data and robustness checks to increase confidence in the estimate.
