I am reading a book by Albert Ellis (one of the fathers of cognitive psychology) which criticizes Ayn Rand, objectivism and unregulated capitalism. The idea of the isolated man, which puts productivity and personal success first without considering others, is described as excessive, irrational and with strong repercussions on mental health. Rand herself has suffered from depression, and this should be seen as a sign of failure within her own value system. Although the author starts from an explicit humanist perspective, and he is clearly not an anticapitalist, I believe that he has raised several interesting points. Maybe in the next few days I could post some of the passages that I found interesting. #egoism #spookydiscourse
