@kingbillygoosephish yep! to make it as simple as possible....
plywood for the front and back "face plates" use a hole saw to drill the sound holes, square dowels between the two pieces of plywood to make the interior hollow. thats it really!

ever put your phone in a cup or bowl to amplify the sound a little? we make something in the woodshop that does that. a nice little introduction to carpentry skills
