I miss a lot of things about furry conventions but watching people get trashed on Fireball isn't one of them.
I've lost pantience with a lot of smug pop culture conceits but "awkward man dressed as Sailor Moon at a comic con, which is funny" guttered out extra-hard.
The best way I can describe it is like intentionally putting your hand into industrial machinery that isn't moving. Sure, it's not moving right now, but you aren't supposed to do it and if it does suddenly start moving...
In a weird way, the lack of hostility is even more unsettling than, say, being attacked at a protest. It feels like a trap.
