In the first two years of his presidency, Joe Biden approved 6,430 permits for oil and gas drilling on US public lands, compared to 6,172 approved by Donald Trump in the first two years of his presidency.

When criticized for breaking his campaign pledges on the climate catastrophe (“No more drilling on federal lands, period. Period. Period. Period.”), Biden played a silly little semantic game and claimed these were all *old* applications and that he was just working through a backlog rather than approving new permits. Tee hee!

Meanwhile, Biden has since decreased the number of new permits he’s approving. That’s good! The problem is that the number needed to be zero a decade or more ago, *and it’s still growing.* Growth at a slower rate is still growth.

If our elites will not provide an electoral option for addressing the climate catastrophe, people can and should start defending themselves instead.

so, my partner and I just booted up Advance Wars 1&2 Reboot to play a round, and we've been putting on Spotify in the background because the in-game music tends to get repetitive

today, the playlist landed on "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel, and we discovered that shit lined up with the animated intro eerily well

It's clear a lot of people see leftism / liberalism as an opportunity to build a different self-serving social hierarchy they can pretend is more moral than the right-wing alternatives despite reproducing many of the same outcomes.
