The current discourse about Feral artwork reminds me of when i was in middle school and loved drawing animals so very often and was vocal about this love... and how another girl would tease and insult me for drawing ferals/furries and say that it meant that i wanted to fuck animals. Even when i tried to explain the concept of furries/fandom to her, she refused and insulted me still.
That is the view that people outside of the fandom hold about furries regardless of if you draw them upright or on fours. You will never appeal to people outside of your fandom by insulting members of your own community. You try to, use buzzwords, try to make other people look worse by comparison. but to everyone else a depiction of a dog is a dog regardless.
If you had people breathing down your throat about your anthro artwork, would that feel good? Why are you drawing a dog with boobs? standing up? you're only drawing it on two legs to make the DOG appear more fuckable. its a DOG! then you'd bring up fantasy, then you'd bring up fandom, then you'd defend yourself and the things you're into because you are looked at in the same exact fucking way.
At some point you have to get over the insults you were hit with growing up. you've internalized that feeling and want to make yourself more acceptable to non furs when non furs don't give a fuck about you.
At the end of the day, it is fantasy. it is artwork, and if you think artwork is a 1:1 on your morals and stance why don't you go to a fucking museum and explore places outside of your comfort zone.
look into professional artists w/ artwork that have the same qualities that FERAL ART has. go look at Beth Cavener's artwork on her website 'Follow the black rabbit', 'Pan and a Goat', look at 'Jeju Loveland Sculpture Park' and the erotic art there. think about sex, think about taboo, think about your relationship with the erotic and unlearn your shame. Thoughts are not criminal... Even anime has commentary on this, watch 'Psycho-pass'
[ART IS A MEDIUM. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF THIS, YOU ARE TOO ACCUSTOMED TO BEING FED THOUGHTS. DO NOT ALLOW OTHER PEOPLE TO DO YOUR THINKING FOR YOU, EVEN AS I TYPE THIS, I URGE YOU TO LOOK AT YOURSELF. AT ARTWORK, YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH EROTICA, TABOO AND SHAME AND DO YOUR OWN THINKING ABOUT IT.]
Fantasies and thoughts do not hurt people, actions do. and more often than not the people complaining about artwork are sending people who did not hurt anyone death threats & horrible messages over their artwork.
if you are a person who does this: congrats loser! you hurt more people than you 'saved' how does it feel? to be so completely and utterly useless at using critical thinking skills? you watched a youtube video that taught you all the opinions you needed to have, didn't you? since who needs to do their own thinking in this day and age! you think you're intelligent and know all you need to know about the world and everything in it when your only point of reference is something someone else said on twitter about a subject that you know nothing about.
In due time you'll realize this is an action that you will come to regret when you finish developing your cognitive abilities. :]
but for now if you want to have any hope of actually being a normal person who doesn't pry into or judge the fantasies of strangers, acquaintances and friends.. educate yourself on art, history, and mind your own fucking business if you don't personally enjoy the same things.
good luck!
