I confess I had no idea this was possible until I googled it just now. This is going to make texting so much less frustrating.😎

Serious Trouble

I unexpectedly had to say goodbye to a fluffy little friend today.

Ivy R.I.P. - Windypundit

Ivy came into our lives in 2013. We adopted her as an adult. The breeder had originally purchased her to be a queen at the cattery, but she never got pregnant, so at the age of four they spayed her and offered her for sale. When we visited her, we loved how friendly and cuddly […]

Illinois's new assault weapons ban is under fire from lawsuits. Given its unprincipled definition of "assault weapon," the law seems mostly performative -- legislative theater to get votes.

I explain at my blog:

Assault Weapon Ban Theater - Windypundit

Somewhat to my surprise, earlier this year, Illinois passed an assault weapons ban, justified in part as an attempt to end mass-shootings. The ban is already under attack in the courts and dozens of county Sheriffs have claimed they will not enforce it. Lots of people in the RKBA[1]Right to Keep and Bear Arms community […]

Stop playing this stupid "gotcha" game. People fighting global warming, like everybody else, have to live in the world we have, not the world they want. They have to use available technology to effect change. You're not winning any argument by pointing this out.

Just a reminder that ChatGPT is a Language Model. So it can talk about things pretty well. And we use language to talk about logic and math and science and philosophy, so it can talk about logic and math and science and philosophy pretty well. But ChatGPT can't DO logic and math and science and philosophy. Not even a little.

“My new favorite thing - Bing's new ChatGPT bot argues with a user, gaslights them about the current year being 2022, says their phone might have a virus, and says "You have not been a good user" Why? Because the person asked where Avatar 2 is showing nearby”

Another curious ChatGPT oops:

"explain the sunny 16 rule"

Mostly right, except "on a sunny day [...] if the aperture is set to f/16, the shutter speed should be set to the reciprocal of the film or sensor speed (e.g. 1/100th of a second for ISO 100). This can be adjusted for different aperture settings. For example, if the aperture is set to f/8, the shutter speed should be set to 1/200th of a second."

Nope. Exposure is related to the *square* of the f-stop. Should be 1/400 sec.

One thing that fascinates me about ChatGPT is that underneath it's entirely a mathematical operation, yet on the surface it's bad at math:

"what's 9348573 times 1235038"

"9348573 times 1235038 is equal to 115,564,849,454,014."

That's NOT the right answer.
