Hello! Hallo!こんいちは!

I am a guy from Germany doing (well, currently still planning) a working holiday in Japan. On this account I want to give some friends, people I meet and interested people in general the opportunity to be part of my adventure.

I plan on writing about some of the things I experience and share pictures of some of the stuff I see, but do not expect the full content creator experience here. There will be pauses on posting and as a privacy conscious person, it will not be a full experience of selfies etc!

I do hope it is enjoyable though!

The start of my working holiday in Japan is quite close and I can finally say that it feels like I have a plan. Two weeks ago, I finally got confirmation for my homestay in Sapporo and thus could confirm my language course too. This is where an issue presented itself: The language course is full starting in July, so they have to shorten what they offered to me...
After considering my options, I did not shorten my booking for the homestay while accepting the shortened duration for the language course. At the same time, I wrote a few more messages to other language schools asking who has space in July, because I still would like to attend a language course for around 3 months. Plan B is working full time at the end of my time in Sapporo. Plan C is more sightseeing.

One thing that worked great is the application for the visa. There is a comprehensive list of documents needed for the working holiday. I had to fill out some forms, update my resume, name a basic travel itinerary, write a one pager on my motivation for visiting Japan and some other things, but the application itself was really easy. Just show up at the responsible embassy (without needing an appointment) and give them the stack of papers. One week later I can collect my visa. Suprisingly easy.

I do also have my health insurance and flights set up!

I very much do look forward to finally go to Japan after many years of wanting to do it and many reasons for it then not working out, but planning all of it is a nuisance! Sometimes not getting answers, outdated information on websites, some weird pricing, and just the amount of things to have organized and be informed about. But oh well, that is part of it. I really hope to have at least some of it fixed soon. Currently at almost 3 months from the first messages, nothing is fully booked, as I want to have three things available at the same time to go ahead with the booking: language school (I hope the course does not get full), accommodation (waiting for an answer on this part), possible flight (I have possible routes with known prices).

In good old fashion, I started my planning with a big comparison table on offers and pricing of my option for a language school (which I want to attend first when I get to japan) and accommodation during it. So if someone wants the current prices for it, I do have most of them now (for Sapporo and the current year). I also created a basic template for the messages with my overall plans and some information on myself. After sending the messages I did get some answers quite fast, but others took some time.

One thing I learned: Even if for example the language school has the whole webpage and a contact form too translated to another language than English, write to them in English (or Japanese if possible). Otherwise you likely will not get an answer at all or just a generic English one, which is not adapted to your message.
