Of course, if you take a minute to look up the author, you'll find he's a transmasculine person from Bahrain: if the caricature is autobiographical, people misrepresent who the author would self-insert as.

On Twitter, you can post all sorts of transphobic slurs without trouble, but not the word "cis", a very neutral word that simply means "not trans". If you say it, your post is automatically marked as hate speech. The few trans people who are still there now censor it as "c!s".

Trans people have always faced a constant battle for their right to exist, a battle that is both rhetorical and material.

This is not a new thing: in 1933, after accomplishing a good decade of progress for LGBT people, the German Institut für Sexualwissenschaft was burned by Nazis.
