If you're in T&S or VC, you should definitely read Duco's recent report on investing in the T&S vendor sector; if you want a sense of the report's context and importance, take a look at my latest piece at Tech Policy Press. https://www.techpolicy.press/trust-safety-for-investors-revisiting-the-trust-safety-vendor-ecosystem/

@pseudomonas yeah, Twitch cut some good T&S people not long ago--and is now hiring again for some more ¯\(°_o)/¯

This is a great example of taking a risk-averse position that ends up causing bigger problems. Issues like this do make T&S fun though!

@pseudomonas Yes, I totally agree with her that the practicalities have not been properly considered, and that the first amendment precludes a huge proportion of all the laws regarding social media and porn.
@pseudomonas That could be one of multiple factors; it would be a mistake to say that's the primary one. There's far more concern about mental health, grooming, and sextortion wrt social media -- though as I point out in the paper, LGBTQ adolescents are the most likely to suffer if some of these bills get put into effect.
Excited to share my new white paper for Stanford's program on Platform regulation - it's a guide to all the different ways that legislators have been attempting to protect children from online harms, including the historical, philosophical, and political considerations. Happy to chat more about this with anyone who's interested to learn more! https://cyber.fsi.stanford.edu/news/legislative-approaches-combating-online-harms-children

Following up on #trustcon23, I wrote about how a thriving trust and safety vendor ecosystem has emerged, despite difficult headwinds for the industry as a whole. https://techpolicy.press/the-evolving-trust-and-safety-vendor-ecosystem/
