44 years ago my father created a book which redefined construction in the UK.

It was the first edition of the National Schedule of Rates, it standardised how government and private businesses calculated the cost of construction.

He made nothing from this, he worked at a local council at the time, but he was credited in each edition. Latterly his credit for creating it was dropped from the preface much to his annoyance. The NSR is now largely digital, and for his 80th birthday, I have convinced the NSRM to properly credit him in their About Us page.

A small win, but meaningful to him. Remember to credit people for their work, especially if it's given away for free.
