“Turns out maybe we didn’t need antitrust reform: we just needed two obscenely rich tech CEOs to be totally out of touch with humanity.” Uplifting optimism about decentralised social media from @mmasnick https://www.techdirt.com/2022/12/21/why-would-anyone-use-another-centralized-social-media-service-after-this/
Why Would Anyone Use Another Centralized Social Media Service After This?

So, it’s been quite a year for legacy, centralized social media — and all without any really big change to the laws that govern it (yet — the EU’s are coming into force shortly, but pos…

"St Thomas Grey, St Thomas Grey
"The longest night and the shortest day."

- an old rhyme for the Solstice; I can't remember where I first heard it but it always comes back to me on this day.

Soon the brightness will grow again, and fast, always faster somehow than I expect. The day will no longer be over by half past three. The world will come back to life.

I joined this site a fortnight ago today.

I did not have a clue how it worked, or about its lore and culture.

Now, it seems intuitive - though not because I am adept but because networks and protocols are familiar and practical things.

We use them all the time: www, mobiles, emails, etc.

And this place is structured to encourage calm civility.

It was Twitter which was strange and, in many ways, inhumane - rewarding clicks and rage and vileness.

We just got used to it.

And now we are out.

@TheWych I dumped Twitter yesterday. Asking their staff to sign up for indentured labour was a bit too medieval for my tastes.

@Terrybernstein firing them by meme...

Motives fascinate me.
If you understand motive, every action makes sense.

He's crashing twitter.
Selling Tesla stock to do it.
Who's paying?
What's the price?

He likes US RW politics, and their parties... it's a kind of social climbing thing.

The RW hate Twitter accountability.
But it's an expression of social accountability, and that can use any platform.

He sold out his advertisers.
Poor move for an advertising company.
What's the motive/price? 🤷‍♀️

Still trying to catch up with my #FBPE crowd.
(Formerly @🔥Blossom🔥Y42 on Twitster)

If you're there, catch me here.
#FBPE #GTTO

@exilefromgroggs it's gonna take an age for the hovel to settle again after that move but, I hear there's less junk mail around these parts so, y'know, bonuses. 🤷

And the lake is cleaner.
For now. 😉

#Wulferhampton Wanderers innit? 👍😁

@iliveonavenue5 mine are political too - Musk is trying to endear himself into the headbanger Republicans; anti-vaxxer, spoilt rich brat, breaking expensive toys, because he's never had to learn that his actions have consequences.
Of course he can't work out why what he says on Twitter affects his share price.
He's not a genius.
He's a child.
-Deliberately crashing 'Liberals' for dinner dates.

Elon fucked his sponsors to amplify RW misinformation & 'own libs'.
RW hates twitter accountability.👀
