The Old Cheese

I live in Sydneynot far from the Harbour and central areas. I am quite blind these days and am fully retired after a very successful professional career.

What does a blind old cheese do now retired? Technology, of course. Then music, guitar playing, recording loops, listening, reading, building N Scale train layouts, coffee wine, beer, steaks, hot chips, one on one chatter, walking, blind photography and an amused political observer.

I have also travelled around the world.

I just received my new Rivo 3 mini keyboard. I have previously used a Rivo 2 but this model is significantly better in a number of ways. it comes with a protective case similar to many iPhone cases, it has a number of new buttons and the responsive rate is to my experience, improved. one of the best use cases for this product is when I am working through dozens of news stories in an App like Lire or posts on FB. better speed, better response rate and much less hand movement.the only draw back if the cost. $799 USD or around $1250AUD. it also has options for audio book storage, music and the phone mode appears a lot better. For some reason, it also holds a Braille dictionary which for a braille lud like me, is quite helpful.
What is unclear here is why the law does not allow huge fines or removal of operating licences for ride share / taxi operators. Just having an education training process is obviously insufficient to stop these problems. All these disability stories contain excuses, promises of change, statements about training. Not a word from providers about taking immediate responsibility to ensure adherence to the moral and ethical obligation to look after all passengers equally. Including us.https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-02-24/disability-transport-rail-road-uber-taxi-bus/103073092?utm_source=abc_news_app&utm_medium=content_shared&utm_campaign=abc_news_app&utm_content=other
Australians with disability share their transport horror stories

The ABC has recently heard hundreds of stories from Australians with disability about their experiences with transport across the country. Advocates say systems are failing them.

Does anyone use an outdoor weather station that has a fully accessible iOS App? My Netatmo outdoor Unit no longer works, most likely due to extreme dust exposure impacting the sensors. Retailer advised Netatmo no longer provided this outdoor Unit, but he was only just a regular sales guy. So I dont know.
I enjoy all types of police mystery and detective books.so my surprise when in a @jamespatterson book N Y P D Red book V. In one incident, a former senior police detective advises others that he knew the “blind man” tapping his way up the corridor was not genuine stating that “why would a blind man be wearing an Apple Watch?” Someone’s research let old James Patterson down.
Why is this considered. A news story? The ABC too often keeps giving us all this anecdotal clap trap and irrelevant info. Yes, the lady here has an issue, but why is it appearing on a national news list? ABC, this is why people are just moving away or actually not even looking at the news any more. Give us news, not social commentary and complaint.https://www.abc.net.au/news/health/2023-11-18/breastfeeding-accessibility-issues-in-australian-hospitals/102972944?utm_source=abc_news_app&utm_medium=content_shared&utm_campaign=abc_news_app&utm_content=other
Breastfeeding support only offered in one fifth of Australian hospitals, which means new mums like Sharni slip through the cracks

How hospitals approach the needs of a patient who is also breastfeeding can have a significant impact on both mum and bub, and most Australian hospitals aren't offering accredited support.

As a paramedic, was he part of the terrorist force that came across the Israeli border on 7 October, attacked and killed over 1200 innocent civilians either at home or at the music festival, raping and killing young women, some pregnant, beheading babies, dragging the naked bodies of women through Gaza whilst his cohorts jeered and spat on the body? Well, what about the hostages Hamas, his Government still holds in abject terror and misery? Does that bother him either? Go on, be a man and go save the hostages.https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-11-18/a-day-in-the-life-of-a-gaza-paramedic/103107568?utm_source=abc_news_app&utm_medium=content_shared&utm_campaign=abc_news_app&utm_content=other
As Israeli air strikes rain down on Gaza, paramedics like Yasser put themselves in danger to save lives

Every day could be Yasser's last. But he doesn't have time to think about that. Everywhere he goes, desperate people need him. WARNING: Some readers might find the details and images in this story distressing.

I just had AIRA agent assist with scanning 100 pages of a book which I want to run through one of the ocr. There are 10 pages per email attachments on my iPhone Mail app.is there an easier way to save them to files or drop box rather than one by one? Online resources are vague about how to do this quickly. Using iPhone 13 Pro with iOS 17.1.1 also if I am to find and easy way to collate and batch scan, which would be the best app at this current time? I have probably all of the major apps but would like some direction on which is easier and less time heavy. Appreciation in advance.
@Woody thank you for the talking Tech podcasts. Still very good and informative and more. In your last podcast, you mentioned the Trainsounds app. Here is a Spotify playlist with longer recordings and better descriptions. They sound great on Home Pods and other Hi Fi equipment.https://open.spotify.com/album/2aTo4aT9iDONIltkW7YICK?si=v9ZRk5pXRj2poh-CDGAxYg

Have you seen the updated Seeing AI app released today? It has just moved into the more advanced AI sector and has done a very good job. Both reviewing and describing pre existing photos on your camera roll as well as photos taken in Scene Preview. Things are moving forward in this space. Congratulations.
The surprise I experienced when I was out at a noisy bar on Wednesday when I was able to tweak my Apple AirPods 2 Pro for good conversational listening. I have quite good hearing aids with numerous settings and a remote control microphone, but it was not enough. However, after adjusting the setting in Accessiblity audio Visual and focussing on voice and high transparency, listening through the AirPods Pro 2 on one side only was much much better. I have tried heard That but the subscription is a little too much for myself on a fixed income stream. Especially when I might only use it once or twice a month.
