@thomasfuchs I worked at a large company that had this Y2K policy: if code you wrote failed at Y2K, no matter how trivial, you were fired.
@ProPublica I went to a poor high school in a very poor state. We didn’t have a cafeteria. We didn’t have lockers or showers in the gym. We had three principals in three years. But my graduating class of 200 had three National Merit Scholars, including me.

@modacitylife I agree in principle. But let’s look at a typical US city - the Richmond Virginia metro area.

It has about 540,000 households and 734,000 workers. Of those 734,000 workers, 20% work from home, and 1% use the existing free public bus system. A little over 500,000 people drive alone to work. The Richmond MSA covers 4500 square miles. Would it be feasible to design a viable public transportation system to get 500,000 people to work places spread out over 4500 square miles?
