idk i guess i have been here a while

i need something that is not twitter to rise

(i realize i could do more to follow people but i'm also following the discourse all over on escape routes and i think the people i follow here are too)

Scott McFarlane be like: jury selection is underway for the trial of Rebel McInsurrection, who was accused of carrying a Trump flag on Capitol grounds and shouting "MURICA!!" He faces 10 years in prison.
there's a weird class of twitter bots and/or trollfarm accounts that always say "I speak for everyone when I say..." or "I speak for all [group]" and they're concentrated in the comments of the most important political accounts like biden/potus
there's something a little greasy about the way Post was rolled out and promoted
recovering from yeeterus. it's rough going but i just wanted to say that i'm happy that activity is picking up here and i hope it continues to do so. it would be nice to be able to stop checking tw*tter just to follow the news. still a ways to go before i feel comfortable ignoring it altogether.

Post ain't it. It's too narrow in its purpose. I'm sure it makes sense as a Tw*tter alternative for people who only use Tw*tter to engage with journalists or follow the news, but Tw*tter was so much more than that.

It would be nice to see encrypted Mastodon servers run by known and relatively trusted entities as non-profit orgs. It needs to be "come to this specific server with these rules and protections and associations" rather than "come to Mastodon".

I am just here in case the journalists decide to jump ship. Many of them are already here but I guess whether they actually jump ship remains to be seen.

@Terez is also me. I created that account and then I realized I already had this one from 4 years ago. Trying to remember what happened in October 2018 to make me join here but I have no recollection of it whatsoever.

Five hundred characters is a lot of characters, like many many more characters than on Twitter. What are you even supposed to do with a character count like that? Five hundred! That's a real long "toot." A tooooooooooooooooooooooot, if you will. Wow. The characters just keep going and going and going, beyond all reason. Is this supposed to produce a more thoughtful style in the toots, or just a more unhinged and rambling one? Whose brain even goes on that long anymore after all those years on Tw
