Here is my nerdy first post of the summer: Yes, we are all meditating upon AI in the classroom for the fourth year in a row. But what about plain old software in general? https://open.substack.com/pub/tjwilson/p/ai-in-the-classroom-got-you-down?r=2dkk7&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

If you need a refresher as an English teacher or lover of writing/reading, this is your book:

“But the part of us that reads isn’t sensible. It craves danger.” -- Steve Almond, *Truth Is the Arrow, Mercy Is the Bow*

Put this biography of Douglas Adams, *Wish You Were Here* by Nick Webb, down as a type of biography that is written in the mode of its subject.
I did not expect the conclusions I arrived at and am still mulling over after reading C. Thi Nguyen’s eminently thoughtful book The Score. Instead of change, I thought of surrender. Why? I mull it over here: https://open.substack.com/pub/tjwilson/p/dude-value-capture-part-2?r=2dkk7&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true
(I also almost got caught in a building-waste flood while walking down Pirate’s Alley. It was surreal to have to dodge it, but I did. Here, a photo of the offending pipe after it all dried up, and we went back to the bookstore.)
C. Thi Nguyen’s book *The Score* is creating some smart and uplifting conversations. Here is my modest contribution: https://open.substack.com/pub/tjwilson/p/dude-value-capture?r=2dkk7&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true
Finally finished my thoughts on Paramount+ including a clip from The Gladiator in their UFC commercials. Here. Take them: https://open.substack.com/pub/tjwilson/p/misappropriating-maximus?r=2dkk7&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true
I’m reading a Wish You Were Here by Nick Webb. So far, it is a supremely suitable biography of Douglas Adams, wry wit with a level of seriousness and abject comedy.
Everyone needs a lift sometime. It’s pretty great when that lift comes from Kurt Vonnegut: https://tjwilson.substack.com/p/kurt-vonnegut-was-my-teaching-patronus?r=2dkk7
The most expensive tool in the classroom is me, the teacher. The second most expensive is the computer I use. The third and fourth are probably my classroom’s large whiteboard and fancy-ish projector. Let’s talk about those: https://open.substack.com/pub/tjwilson/p/on-whiteboards-and-slideshows?r=2dkk7&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true
