So we lost Terry Bisson, who wrote the brilliant SF short short story "They're made out of meat", but also a really good alternate history novel called "Fire on the Mountain": an alternate 1859 where John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry was successful. its not like any other "what if the confederacy won, hurr durr" civil war alt-hist, its marxist and abolitionist to its core, and utopian rather than dystopian. highly recommended
