Many people appear to be very stressed about the idea of "AI", worried about getting left behind, not learning fast enough and being confused by how to best use it.

Stop. Take a step back. Look at this state of mind from a distance.

If this is how it is making people feel, how is it helpful?

Creating fear and self-doubt is a sales technique. Notice and acknowledge when people are doing this to you, even as they are listing "50 AI tools you should be using today!"

I believe that by learning to ignore unhelpful assertions and claims designed to break down – rather than build – your confidence, you can improve your wellbeing.
The problem with #AI is the problem with #capitalism.

I'm not against the technology - it can really be useful and fun. Will it mean loss of income for some creators? Yeah, probably. Are they justified to be angry about their copyright being violated? Sure, capitalism promised them income based on their copyright, and now they see learning algorithms being fed every copyrighted work ever because breaking the previous agreement means opening up new markets and new ways to make profit for the large capital. This system was never "fair"; it's the profit of the ruling class that leads society. The rules can change at any minute, if our rulers' priorities and needs change.

Copyright overall, though, doesn't make much sense. All human inventions and creations were based on other humans' inventions, creations or behaviours. There is no birth out of nothing. And what people create should belong to humanity to benefit from and improve upon it. The problem is that artists might not be able to make a living in capitalism without copyrights (and most of the times they can't make a living with copyrights either, as companies keep most of the profits).

So I think that the problem is not "AI". The problem is that we haven't built a world where you can be an artist and not worry about your survival, so that you can create whatever the fuck you want, and people can ask for your help or they can use AI and everyone has their basic needs covered and doesn't need to have passionate discussions about copyright and profit and all that silly stuff we've distorted our lives with.

activitypub is probably also not exactly stable and safe, but with love in my heart i say that its jankiness keeps people from expecting more from it than we should really be expecting from anything
bsky.team going Malevolent , application-level bans that make people non-visible even on other PDSs, it seems ultimately unsafe to invest yourself into anything ATproto. The days of people's livelihoods depending on posting are probably Gone and they were always a unique sort of precarity. that is simply not a safe platform to build anything on or to be open on
"Who... are... *you*?" said the caterpillar. Indi doing Indi things as always.

@verge The author wants to use Instagram without using Meta… ooookay? Why is anyone still surprised that Meta is awful? It’s been over a decade of this. It’s like picking up mouldy bread every day, staring at the green fuzz, eating it anyway, and then acting shocked it’s mouldy.

Reminder: Meta’s guidelines don’t allow its users to call people β€œmentally ill” as an insult - unless they’re LGBT+. Every other usage is banned.

The Verge has already covered the solution: Pixelfed.

Imgur is now blocked in the UK. Easier for them to just block than try and comply with the worst piece of legislation ever passed into law in a civilised country.

The switch looks to have been flipped on at 9pm GMT. Will be interesting to see if it spikes when people wake up in in a few hours. #imgur

@cmconseils (Also, the digitalaudioplayer subreddit has a lot of good discussions on this :) Hiby and Fiio produce some pretty cool devices - Sony still do, but they come with a slightly higher price point)
@cmconseils I really miss doing nothing but listening to music while sat in the back of a car or walking, or just letting my mind wander - there was no compulsion to pick up the phone and do other things at the same time. I hate that the attention economy has robbed so many of us of the ability and chance to just mindfully and purposefully listen to music...
