@elbowspeak @interfluidity Just to add, of course that clumping creates/is energy gradients.

@elbowspeak @interfluidity Basically struggling to resist the eternal allure of a causal/teleological understanding, eg the universe "experimenting" vs just random ~mutation.

Aha discovery for me, poking around on this: that the universe is not like a jar or room full of gas. In a self-gravitating system, there are more possible clumped states than uniform, so they're higher-entropy! And clumping is a least a necessary precondition for life. Just noodling here...

@elbowspeak @interfluidity I'm struggling with the idea that more syntropic pockets/microstates are "selected" for. Would mean that more-entropic ones die out, while more-syntropic ones survive and propogate into the future population of microstates. Am I understanding that? Thx.
@elbowspeak @interfluidity Syntropy is a great word.
@elbowspeak @interfluidity Yes have read that also and a few other posts. Lots of ahas for me. Great stuff, thanks.
@interfluidity Right. Could also describe it as freedom to save (or not). But need to consider capital gains accrued and accumulated over years/decades as saving to think in terms of lifetime income/saving and spending. (Also considering difficulty/cost of spending from home equity and 401s/IRAs.)
@Mab_813 @interfluidity It certainly may not be sufficient, but it is quite possibly necessary to maintain democracy.
@interfluidity 51% vote of no confidence FTW.
@interfluidity while it makes sense intuitively, are you sure empirically that dispersion is higher at higher inflation rates?
