Scientists have discovered a trove of nearly 600 obsidian hand-axes that were crafted more than 1.2 million years ago in Ethiopia by an unknown group of hominins. This pushes the timeline of obsidian tool use back by 500,000 years.

The second of two images I have included in the @DartmoorCollective Linear zine, taken on a winter afternoon bathed in golden light and haze.
The line in the foreground is the B3212 - the "main" road which bisects Dartmoor from east to west, a C18th turnpike route which in places follows the lines of far more ancient tracks.
Beyond, the hillsides bear the multiple scars of peat cutter's paths, mining trails and pony driftways.
A connected, multi-layered landscape.
