The thing that's most frustrating, that I think will fill many people with justifiable anger, is the destruction of all their online connections. There are communities on Twitter that I love, of which only a tiny fraction exists here on Mastodon. Some of them have gone over to Bluesky, but they're only letting in a slow trickle. So many people are having their communities torn away from them and there's nothing they can do about it.

Do people seriously not understand how much gatekeeping there is in the statement "you need to understand the #culture of the #fediverse [before you should be here]"?

The Culture of the Fediverse™ is _by design and necessity_ something that can and should evolve. If it is going to succeed it _must_ evolve.

You can't say "everyone is welcome here" and then turn around and say "but only if you adjust to a set of cultural expectations that no one will explain to you or write down."

A church in #Fresno, #California whose congregation is half #LGBTQ, reports that $25K worth of damage was done to its building and a sticker for the "Central Valley Proud Boys" was left behind next to the damage. Proud Boys targeted the church recently for hosting a drag event.
