Friendly reminder that Transgender people are not and should not be defined by their suffering. Transmed/truscum rhetoric unfairly weaponizes the unique lived experiences of trans and non-binary individuals and reduces them to their pain and dysphoria. Allies/accomplices please be mindful.

@morefrances @BethanyNMorrison absolutely students should know what criteria they are being assessed on! Students deserve to have ownership over the work they do and to make the choices in it. If they don’t know the expectations (rubric or not) they cannot make a well-informed choice.

In decolonizing and dismantling the gatekeeping of higherEd it’s so important to make sure that students get to have their voice present and decide how to meet expectations.

@BethanyNMorrison I was part of an assessment at my college looking at the signature assignment instructions/rubric. Many instructors did not have skill in making them at all. Working with a student writer. He's supposed to give feedback on another student's piece. He said "Her paper is on Taylor Swift and the dispute she had with Apple back in 1989...which is important because mp3s and streaming weren't really big back then." I am (internally) laughing so hard.
