Imo, yes but the things that are dealbreakers (for me it was ads in the terminal) that Canonical has done are across the spectrum. In the end i felt they were too opinionated (see also why i like kde plasma) and wanted to control the “experience” of using my hardware. Always compromises within any complex system and i thought Debian was a good blank-ish slate for me to work on. Plus i self host quite a bit and am sick of windows licensing and microsft shenanigans so i need something for my servers as well.

To the point of a very new person to linux asking about the lingo and the basics of using linux, the Debian Administrators Handbook has an excellent “remedial” section in its appendix. It covers a lot of the basics of working with your first linux computer. I have run various distros over the years but when i finally pulled the trigger on migrating to debian from ubuntu, i did take the time to read the remedial section and the first 8 or so chapters to have a more in-depth understanding of the logic and design choices but i found the remedial section to be a particularly good refresher and explanation of the basics that everyone takes for granted.

Okay sure the internet is free and corpos are always going to give web hosting…or i do self host and know that someone has to pay the bill despite it being “200 kb”…bruh, they aint giving it away for free, your content and everything you “own” are the price you pay for admission. I disagree, someone has to pay for the internet, server and electricity to serve your supposedly “free” page. If you are talking about something like GitHub pages? Not really a solution if Microsoft, just…i dont know, got rid of freebies once they have you locked into hosting your content with them? Corpos would never ensure thay have you locked in as a consumer before turning the screws

50 dollar pair of Sennheiser over the ear (not cans) headphones absolutely blew my mind which lead to many a denon, electovoice, carver, klipsch, adcom, & cerwin-vega passing through my hands (i miss my “house” speakers (cobbled together and refoamed the woofers from 2 sets of 1970’s vintage D9’s and ran them with a 200 watt rms/ch electrovoice power amp as a bedroom dj for many a house party 😁🍻) not to say my current stereo cant thump, buuuuuttttt (i hear an old man in my head) “theres no replacement for displacement” way of thinking will probably lead to either a home theater sub or more car audio
