#breakingnewsYou can see how traumatized my then-10-year-old son was when he saw The David in real life.
Happy Norooz! This is a haftsin I set up a few years ago. Traditionally, a haftsin ("7 S's") consists of a table with 7 items that start with the Persian letter "S" - these include Sabzeh (wheatgrass), Samanu (sweet pudding made from wheat germ), Senjed (sweet dry fruit of the lotus tree), Serkeh (Persian vinegar), Seeb (apple), Seer (garlic) and Somaq (sumac). Usually there are sweets (shirini), a book of Persian poetry and decorated eggs.
"The Man Who Died Twice:" Charming characters, very witty, and a good mystery to boot. A group of septagenarians who solve murders, have tea (and eat Joyce's cakes), and enjoy themselves a great deal. This is the second in the series and I liked it even better than the first. 10/10 would recommend.
#booksThis bitch. A sitting Congressperson openly calling for civil war essentially. Pretty sure she swore an oath to the United States not just the red states.
Is THIS what Romney said?
Ah, I'm still buzzing about "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow." What a book! It's about friendship and creative collaboration and the power of creating worlds and recreating them and ourselves. It's gorgeous. There is a section about 2/3 of the way through that took my breath away. 10/10
#booksJust finished Lessons in Chemistry. I'm so struck by the protagonist's strong sense of self, informed by her study of science. A fantastic book, funny and quirky and thoughtful. 10/10
#BooksI'm trapped. Not mad about it.
