I think he checked out and let the cocaine do the talking.
True. I suppose there is a lot that needs changing: FPTP, lobbying in politics, insider trading, media reform, algorithm regulations … I’m only scratching the surface.
By Grabthor’s Hammer, you’re right.
I wonder if it’s possible to selectively limit it to certain libraries or function calls, disabling the rest.
Upvoted because I agree in part, but if there is no ethical move left on the board we are doomed, and I don’t believe that. I believe that we can radically transform our nations for the better. Look at Mamdani in NY and Zack Polanski and Fiona Lally in England - or more importantly, the movement growing around them. The problem as I see it is that we are distracted (entertained, busy) and divided (ideology / misinformation). We do need a revolution, though. And by-the-numbers “leadership” isn’t doing it.
Not Canadian but since this whole thing is brutally relatable, aren’t we as citizens responsible for the poor choice? I know capable people that decided to work for private companies instead of public service, for example. (apologies if this is too tangental, but it’s been on my mind).
I remember reading The Farmers Journal just one time over ten years ago. The first thing in it was an opening from the editor denying the fundamental of climate change. Even farmer influencers on Irish TikTok (eg The Kerry Cowboy) deny the climate impact for dairy and his herd. Really disappointing to hear anti-science spread among younger people.
We are sun lovers (myself excluded). Hot holiday destinations are popular, for example. I’ve just never been able to handle anything above 17-19 degrees Celsius.
Our homes are designed for the cold climate, so they tend to (ideally) retain heat - which is becoming a problem as temps rise. No A/C here. I do have fans, but I think I’ll have to look into an actual air conditioner for just one room and camp out there on the days this happens. It’s going to get worse.

Dublin ‘can’t trust itself to do the right thing’: Why Irish EU presidency should recuse itself from regulating Big Tech - Lemmy.World
I think more people should know about this. I didn’t know the Irish Council for
Civil Liberties had a division called Enforce. Johnny Ryan is doing incredible
work. I’m also horrified by what Irish “regulators” have allowed big tech to do
in the EU.
