Some people confuse perseverance with apathy. My grandparents sat me down at 5 years old after some asshole threatened to run over my sister and I in the crosswalk after calling us the N word that it wouldn't be the last time I would be faced with that type of hostility. I never had luxury of being naive. I'm not surprised or shocked about what happened yesterday, the last 10 years or all the years I've been alive. This is the results of a country that refuses to reckon or account for its past.
