NY Yankees fan, dog behavior and training geek (force free), dyed in the wool liberal democrat
@davidbloomberg I wasn’t impressed. Maybe trying to establish the characters in first episodes made things feel forced. I also couldn’t help feeling it trivialized important issues. My guess is the people brought into a real NYC night court look very different than those populating the show.
@jay_jaffe They came for the water.
@Ideakat Pat Miller’s Power of Positive Dog Training was one of the books that had the biggest effect on me, way back when positive training simply wasn’t very well known. I gave copies to pretty much everyone I knew who got a new dog. Many of these books should be read not only by potential professionals, but every owner. There is no much force based training readily available in the media that dog owners need more good information in their hands.
@Ideakat It is really hard. Everyone acting as if this is over when it is anything but.
@Ideakat that is an impressive reading list!
@davidbloomberg if I may, I will suggest you follow @zazietodd here for excellence information about living with dogs (she also talks about cats). You are looking for a new family member. Not a decision to rush into. Having criteria is fine. Good luck in finding that furry family member who is right for you!
@davidbloomberg Looking forward to following!
@davidbloomberg When are you getting your own puppy?
@sophiebarton Would you be able to tell us if there are physical characteristics of these brains that align with breed characteristics?
@zogmaister In general, if the goal is avoidance negative reinforcement, ie R-, there can be multiple natural ways to achieve it. Eg - a police car always at one spot on highway and you want to avoid speeding ticket. You can stay home. You can take a different route. You can drive within the speed limit. You can have someone else drive you. All result in avoiding the speeding ticket.1/2
