Classic Cleavages in a New Light: Chinese Informational Influence in the Baltics - ICDS

Institutions and organisations researching and monitoring the informational policies of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) are observing a dramatic increase and expansion in the regime’s efforts to shape and influence the global information space. This trend is followed by a careful and expanding effort to understand the tactics used by the People’s Republic of China (PRC), which vary from propaganda and misinformation and the suppression of critical voices to the promotion of digital authoritarianism, utilising aggressive means such as intimidation and diplomatic pressure as well as gaining control over media and information technologies.

📌 #REUNIR extends gratitude to the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy for organizing a crucial gathering, where Minister Martin Dvořák and Deputy Minister Eduard Hulicius led us in a reflective dialogue on 20 years of Czech membership in the EU and the trajectory of EU enlargement.

➡ This invaluable opportunity allowed us to deepen our understanding of past achievements and collectively envision a more prosperous and inclusive future for the European Union.

📌 REUNIR’s project coordinator Steven Blockmans teamed up with colleagues from the sister project Re-Engage for policy briefings in Stockholm.

📚 Thanks to Fredrik Löjdquist, Stockholm Centre for Eastern European Studies (SCEEUS) for hosting today’s brainstorming meeting with State Secretary Christian Danielsson & briefing for staff at Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs on future-proofing EU enlargement policy in the face of domestic challenges & foreign interferences.
