The difference is that by being an active participant on twitter, you are part of the community that gives twitter its power. This is not the same thing as understanding other viewpoints / collecting timely and accurate information. Active users literally generate the value of the Twitter company.
It is not a question of running away. By patronizing a site run by a single ringleader, you are endorsing him and his company. Being on Twitter supports him and his model. Stay if you wish, your choice, but users' presence is what constitutes the platform's value.
Not easy to fight a war on a platform that is owned by one side. Blocking is good, but leaving is best.
