I am a musical instrument repair tech (24+ yrs), watercolor artist (18+ yrs), and guitar player (40+ yrs) from the Tacoma, WA USA area.
Just swapped out the JJ 12AX7 tube in my BK butler Tube Driver with a vintage EI ECC83 tube from Yugoslavia with long smooth Grey plates. Wow! Made on Telefunken machinery prior to the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. It’s obvious why this tube is a favorite of David Gilmour and Eric Johnson in the Tube Driver.
Swapped out my clone of an MXR Envelope Filter for a 1978 MXR Dyna Comp compressor pedal on my board today. I really like a little compression with my telecaster. I did have to add a @pedaltrain pedal booster since the compressor was hard to reach behind the wah and beside the Big Muff. #mxrdynacomp #pedaltrain #guitarpedals
Got a great deal on a 1978 MXR DynaComp compressor. It’s a one-trick pony but does a great job at what it’s meant for. #mxrdynacomp #compressor #guitareffects
Got out my old 1977 Thomas International Crybaby Wah today. Mine was made in Chicago but it is identical to the Sepulveda, CA made ones with the TDK inductor that are popular right now. After much deliberation, I converted it to true bypass with a new switch in order to preserve the high frequencies when it is off. It is amazing! #crybabywah
Ever seen the inside of a Univox Tape Echo cartridge? Its an endless tape system similar to an 8-track cartridge but smaller. A similar cartridge was used for some old dictation machines. I’m making new pressure pads for this one. The old foam has disintegrated. #univoxec80a #univoxechochamber
Added a “Duncan” style treble bleed circuit to the tele today. I went with a .001uf capacitor and 150k resistor. I really like the way this retains some highs and lows as the volume is rolled down. It also has a side-effect I like of changing the taper of the volume control. #treblebleedmod
Bought a drop-in replacement board for my wah from Reverb. I have been wanting to do my own vintage reproduction Clyde McCoy wah for a while so when I saw a pre-populated board on Reverb, I couldn’t resist. Now I don’t have to source all the components myself! it is way more vocal sounding than the reissue Vox I got in the early 2000’s. #voxwah #clydemccoywah
Trying out a Brimar 6V6G in my ‘71 Fender Champ. Its interesting how different it is from the RCA 6V6 I normally have in there. A little less volume but a bit more breakup. The Brimar 6V6GT I have breaks up much quicker than either of the other tubes. I’d use it more but its very microphonic. The Brimar 6V6G, on the other hand, is just ever so slightly microphonic so it will be usable. Amazingly, the big coke-bottle shaped tube fits fine. #brimar #nostubes #fenderchamp #vintagetubes #vintageamps
This totally did the trick. I had already rerouted the lead dress years ago but the capacitor definitely was the fix.
After all these years, I think I found the solution to the ticking sound from my Twin Reverb’s vibrato. An official Fender Service Bulletin from who-knows-when. I’ll report back if it works. #fenderservicebulletin9 #tickingvibrato #fendertwinreverb
