Today is ANZAC Day.
ANZAC Day was always strongly anti-war, or at least as strongly anti-war as you can get away with in an official context.
It doesn't commemorate military strength or battles won, but lives lost and sacrifices made.
It is not held on the day of some great military victory, but on the day of the Gallipoli landings, where we got totally flogged and had to run away. Lots of lives were sacrificed in vain and nothing at all positive came of it.
Lest we forget [the horrors of war], is the message.
These days, however, many people are using the day to push chauvinistic, militaristic nationalism, and in recognition of this I would like to present a new range of War Crime ANZAC Biscuits. The original ANZACs are turning in their graves at what we have become.
[I had originally intended to post this on the bird site to poke at the Nazis there, but I'm currently suspended for comments on a post about feral cats.]
