Yay train mascots!

Today I saw Kamosy, a train conductor serow (Japanese goat-antelope) who is the mascot for JR Takasaki Station.

Dunno why the preview doesn't show up on Ashley's post, but this is a GS-14/15 Litigation Division attorney for the Federal Trade Commission Office of General Counsel (D.C. based, not remote according to the opening.)

General Attorney

The Federal Trade Commission is the nation's premier consumer protection and antitrust enforcement agency. This position, in the Office of General Counsel, offers the opportunity to further those dual missions by representing the agency in the federal courts of appeals and district courts. Members of the OGC Litigation Division team handle cases, often of nationwide importance and involving cutting-edge legal issues, that span the full range of FTC activities.

I forgot to mention it at the time, but we got our library cards last weekend (including Tiny Human's) and while we didn't do it with the express purpose to make @MrsFridayNext think well of us I'd be lying if the thought hadn't crossed my mind.
This doesn't happen as often at the federal level, because federal contracts can be terminated for convenience of the Government.

One of my favorite recent law articles uses this as an example of how private contracting is often used by the state, and local governments in particular, for the end of public entrenchment. It’s become infamous as a “bad deal,” and it is that—but there are universal lessons here https:…

Finishing dinner with @mreno79 at our favorite local family-owned nicer Chinese restaurant:

Tiny Human, exasperated and loud: "NOW can we go to Panda Express?!"

I'm no @smmarotta , but aside from the obvious problems it feels like there's a lurking personal jurisdiction issue with respect to non-residents of the state.

A new bill introduced in the Florida legislature would require “bloggers who write about Gov. Ron DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody, and other members of the Florida executive cabinet or legislature to register with the state or face fines.”

Everyone who works in a complex bureaucracy should strive to be this person that can get things accomplished for members of the public they're supposed to serve.

in every complicated bureaucracy there is one (1) competent employee who responds to emails and their extremely valuable contact information is passed along by public interest attorneys watching each others’ backs

I wonder how often someone reads what I write and thinks "what an idiot, he should really stick to stuff in his core competence area," because I know I have that thought a lot about things I read.
Not that I do criminal defense, habeas or innocence project work, but this seems to neatly encapsulate the absurdity of some of what you all have to deal with. @hannnahmmarie @alittleleader @VoxPrudentia

More like Halloween, in that some people are getting way more treats than their bad costumes deserve and others just get their houses egged and trees TP'ed.
