Just last week I was thinking about the fact that at some point the place where I did my masters was going to realize I am no longer a student and they should rescind my unlimited Google Drive account. And today my account got limited. I don't think this is a coincidence.

I had the distinct privilege of being asked to write about Dave Phillip's new album on Flag Day Recordings. Phillips is easily one of the best in the noise game right now and getting to put my thoughts about his work into words was a wonderful exercise for me. The album is incredible and I highly recommend getting a copy ASAP.

You can read what I have to say about it and also hear two preview tracks at the link below.

Currently reading a paper from 2005 and it starts with the following sentence: "Recent technical developments in mobile devices, some of which now offer much of the functionality of a laptop PC, have converged with an increasing emphasis on lifelong learning."

Turns out a lot can change in *does the math* ... 18 years. *immediately dies*

Going to start writing "Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)" on every first mention as a bit.
Won't really be able to start in on this until I'm settled into the new country in the second half of the year, but I think my goal for 2023 is to get back into practicing for the sake of practicing. Not to get ready for a show, not to record, not to hang out with friends. Just time spent every day communing with my instruments.

Contracts are signed, ticket is booked, and (I think) all of the people I need to tell in person have been told, so I guess I'm good to say something here:

In just about two months, I will begin as an Assistant Professor in Learning Sciences at the University of Nottingham.

Ill be around until the move at the end of February and back again in April for AERA (and maybe in June for ISLS?). Hoping to hang with as many folks as possible before then. Get at me if thats doable!

I listened to and enjoyed 159 albums that were released this year. And here they all are, ranked into a general order of how much I listened to/thought about them. If that's your sort of thing, enjoy!

I know that ranking your favorite albums of the year is a bit passe at this point, but I like to do it anyway as a way to boost all of the music I loved again as the year comes to a close. That in mind, here is every single

Say what you will about Taylor Swift, but "sometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy baby" is hilarious and ridiculous to the point of brilliance.
