Where the hell is GitHub sending its 2FA notices? It's not going to my Github app, my email, or to messages linked to my email...
Classes start tomorrow and I have never been this down about it. I have never liked teaching: but I am coming to loathe it passionately. ☚ī¸
Damn: summer is the one time that I can really do research, but it slips by soooo quickly every year. (By the time I recover from Spring term, it is halfway done!)
I think that I'm on 6 abstracts submitted to GSA today. I'll be able to cop insanity pleas on parking tickets once I explain that to the judge.
I didn't see Star Wars when it first came out: I didn't even learn about it for a few weeks! I was 12 and prepublicity was not what it is now. But when I did learn about it, my friends & I biked down to the mall theater & saw it. Bikes. Malls. Star Wars. Pre-teens without parents. Late '70s in a nutshell!

A lot of people don't know the difference between capitalism and ... having markets and shopping and little coops and companies in non-super-essential economic sectors that operate independently.

Markets existed before capitalism and will exist after.

I only just learned a couple of days ago that Jim Valentine died. I don't think that anyone, even Stephen Jay Gould, did more to advance theory in paleobiology than Jim did. Jim was (and is) a huge influence on my research: and he was very helpful to me in both the beginning and middle of my career. He was 96, but even as of a few years ago he was quite active in the field. He won't be forgotten while anybody still does paleontology.

The new Chicago mayor *is* "tough on crime." If by "tough on crime," you mean "Will actually put in place the measures that have been shown time and time again, in city after city, to actually reduce violent crime." 🤷đŸŋ‍♂ī¸

Paradoxically (or common sensibly), you can't reduce crime by brutalizing innocent Black folk. You increase it. đŸ˜ĸ

And we can't avoid our addiction to police brutality just by having a Black mayor. Simply having "Black faces" in high places, is not enough.

Sigh. That sinking feeling when you realize that it's the 2nd weekend of spring break, and I still haven't started the two main tasks that I set out to finish while I could actually work on science... 😩
I really need a version of "WhenIsGood" that links me across multiple polls. Yes, this time slot is currently open for me: but if Meeting A decides to hold it at that time, then I cannot make Meeting B at that time!
