Can anyone recommend a very beginner friendly Linux OS for someone who only knows what Linux is but doesn’t have experience with it and has never used anything but windows? Even Apple’s OS is confusing to me. But windows is trying to force this most recent terrible update every time we turn on the computer, and I’ve had enough.

After Elon’s announcement about the department of Ed, I’m feeling indescribable despair. The systematic dismantling of public education in the U.S. has been happening for decades and is a huge part of the reason we’re in this mess.

I know that’s what they want. For us to feel paralyzed. I’m trying to fight it. But as someone who is convinced the election was tampered with*, I am sick over the fact that they let him in again. Someone should have objected before the inauguration, when an objection actually might have achieved something. I worry that the protests are not going to be enough, as they stay locked in their ivory towers. I’m terrified that a distress signal at the state department was quickly swept under the rug. I thought this is why we developed so many international alliances and treaties after WWII. To prevent fascism from taking hold in our countries. But they’re not doing anything. I live in a blue state and haven’t heard a peep out of my governor. Why? Are they waiting for things to get worse? Does a certain person in a specific role have to contact outside help? If so, who? We know this is going to be disastrous for more than the U.S., we can already see it happening.

I feel like I’m doing everything in my power and it’s still not enough. I have friends who work for the government and they are just as scared and lost as I am. All I can think to do is be prepared for extreme hardship and try to stay involved in my community. What else is there?

I agree with you. Hopefully we get to see the electoral college and two party system abolished in our lifetime.

I hear you, friend. Just remember, they don’t live here. They haven’t experienced the calculated dismantling of our education system. They haven’t seen the meteoric rise of Christian nationalism. They don’t know how sick and tired the general population is. Social safety nets are more robust in their countries, so they don’t have nearly the same number of racist, angry, lead addled boomers managing to gain a chokehold on every aspect of our daily lives.

But we do live here, we have experienced it, and you are not alone.

They don’t have to invade us and that’s not what I’m suggesting. They go straight to Musk and Trump’s strongholds and arrest them. Much like what happened in South Korea, except with outside forces, since ours seem to be neutered. Anyone who says this isn’t what NATO does, doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

Also, Trump and Musk are NOT popular with the military right now. There have been active duty service members at protests, one had to be carried out of a confirmation hearing, multiple are uploading videos saying what an insult it was that J6ers were pardoned, and so on. I would hazard a guess that whoever did this with the flag is also military or closely aligned with the miliary, because it isn’t exactly common knowledge. So if the time comes, I don’t think many will be rushing to defend the masters of this coup.
