Amid last week’s Lily-Allen-level of marketing campaign for Departures, I was asked if I’d read much Julian Barnes.
Not really, I thought. Flaubert’s Parrot sketch, and 10 1/2 Chapters … oh, and Metroland.
In fact I could see the Metroland cover in my head - but remembered nothing of it. So I went to the obvious places, in search. Nothing.
Anyway, yesterday, as I began preparations for the impending decorators, I found the Barnes door open - but Metroland had bolted.
