WHY:
1. To show visibility in mainstream media and discuss decriminalization with state government
2. To use art as a political tool to express our needs as a community
3. To connect with other groups around the world and gain support and alert them to our plight, especially from countries (like USA) where censorship is strong, so other organizations can step in and support us.
WHAT: Visual Demonstration and Occupation of Public Space
WHEN: Gather at 12pm. Action at 1pm. Mon, June 2, 2025

WHO: Sex worker and harm reduction organizations including: The Sidewalk Project, USPROSTitutes Collective, The Free Speech Coalition, UTSOPI, Stripper Worker Center, Stoptheraids.org, The Stripper Co-op, Pelvic Sanctuary, Community Health Project LA and others.

Occupation Red Umbrella: A Nonviolent Action of Civil Disobedience

June 2 is International Whore’s Day, an annual event to commemorate the occupation of the Saint-Nizier church in 1975 where a group of over 100 sex workers occupied the church in France for 8 days in an act of civil disobedience against police violence against sex workers.

LOS ANGELES — An action in the form of a visual demonstration will take place at 1pm on June 2, 2025. Please join us for: Occupy Red Umbrella ’25. Several erotic performers and our allies will gather in Sycamore Grove Park at 12pm on Monday, 6/2/25 to send a message of international resistance against police violence against sex workers to make a clear demand: decriminalize all sex work.

Local associations will present how vi0lence against s•x workers converges with intersectional issues related to health, migrant rights, the fight against poverty, etc.

What is the nature of the violence experienced by s•x workers in Belgium? This discussion will focus on the safety issues faced by s•x workers, including those in irregular administrative situations, and their impact on access to justice and fundamental human rights.

Welcoming the criminal lawyers who acted for UTSOPI in the 2022 Eunice Osayande m*rder trial, we will revisit this tragedy and its key moments.

They will then lead a discussion with the audience, Boysproject, Alias, and UTSOPI.
