Network Rail run Railhead Treatment Trains during the autumn to prevent low adhesion due to fallen leaves. They blast the rail head with water and then apply a sand based gel to help train wheels grip. Mostly they do this at night but I saw this one at Cardiff Queen Street yesterday afternoon
Delighted to be contributing to the transport chapter of a new book on "Behavioural Environmental Economics and Policy" (BEEP) with Pete Dyson author of Transport for Humans, there is fantastic line-up of chapter authors contributing to this project!
Since services have improved on the Penarth line and the new 756 trains have come into service my local station has been the busiest I’ve seen it and the train coming in from Penarth has more people on it. 🙂

I am recruiting, I am looking for an Energy and Climate Change Coordinator… | Natalie Rees BA, MSc, MIEnvSc, CEnv.
I am recruiting, I am looking for an Energy and Climate Change Coordinator to join my team at Transport for Wales
We are looking for someone who really can dive into the numbers on our utilities data, and has undertaken some energy auditing. Has been involved in some renewables projects or climate change projects.
This is a data heavy, technical role for someone who loves detail. This role is hybrid but involves site visits across Wales, we are a Wales-wide public service provider.
We are also looking for someone who wants to progress in Energy and Climate Change as we are looking for the future talent in our team.
This role comes with some great benefits which include a salary of £27.5k, free rail travel in Wales and Borders and free leisure travel for close family, and reduce priced leisure travel for you and your close family.
I don’t drive very often but when I do drive it’s a Nissan Leaf, had to go to my parents today after my dad had a very nasty fall onto his face yesterday. I went to pick up his meds from Carmarthen and to charge the car at the Osprey Chargers and I was shocked when they put a 5 day £45 hold on my card for a £15 charge!!! Though it was a very easy to use set up, I will be going back to my usual place next time
This is my fave time of the year for walking
I’m on the fanciest TfW Rail Replacement coach this morning. The Penarth line has experienced a lot of issues over tha past few months which TfW has publicly apologised for. Looking forward to new trains on this line when engineering works are complete
The Pierhead Building, built of Welsh brick and terracotta from Ruabon it’s a masterpiece! The detail both inside and outside the building could keep you busy for hours and there’s a great exhibition in the Futures Gallery currently on the faces of St David’s a set of portraits of the people of the tiny city.
Walking is my transport of choice today I am off to a climate change roundtable at Ty Howell hosted by Janet Finch-Saunders MS. It’s about an hour walk from home, it’s a lovely day. Public transport would have taken around the same time so let’s get those steps in
View from the office today at Cardiff Bus Interchange.
