The advocacy group labeled 25 murders in 2022 as "extremist-related," with 18 of those "committed in whole or part for ideological motives."

The saying I coined is "Racism is just fascism practiced on Black people first."

This isn't a metaphor. It's literally what happened.

The Nazi Nuremberg laws were based on US Jim Crow laws and Federal Indian laws. Hitler got the idea that it really would be possible to ethnically cleanse Germany, from how the US ethnically cleansed Native Americans.

Hitler referred to Ukraine as "our frontier," and referred to Jews, Poles, and Ukrainians, as "our Indians"

Honestly, this is great! The students learn to check sources, discover that ChatGPT is unreliable, *and* can't use it to generate essay question answers for them, all at the same time!

Tomorrow (Wednesday), @NPR's 1A is talking "A.I." in healthcare.

The most persistent problems of "A.I." in medical care are the problems of "A.I." in everything else: Prejudicial biases in the training data which aren't counterweighted in the model design.

As I and others have noted many times before, prejudicial beliefs and assumptions about disabled and neurodivergent people, BIPOC populations, women, and LGBTQIA+ people have formed the basis of the data used to train "A.I." health systems, and we know those prejudices get reproduced.

And frankly, when it comes to the idea of adding GPT in healthcare, the possibility of being subjected to a system built out of & trained on large rafts of the "natural language" people on the internet tend to use to talk about the needs of BIPOC, Disabled, LGBTQ, and Femme folx sounds utterly horrifying.

Automated assessment tools read women's and Black people's pain incorrectly; disability assessment systems are improperly calibrated based on old presuppositions about disabled lived experience, resulting in negative health outcomes and negative impacts on benefits allocations; and "A.I." mental health tools are can have higher proportions of adverse outcomes for neurodivergent populations.

Now imagine integrating a) that system which reliably told the ethnicity of patients from x-rays, b) that system which consistently misdiagnosed signs of illness in Black patients, and c) a GPT chat system— a system trained on examples of how Doctor's tend to talk about Black patients— to relay diagnoses.

Horrifying.

Now these realities can be addressed, but it must be done by bringing large groups of the intended subjects in as consenting partners in the design, training, and use of these systems; but this idea— placing marginalized populations at the center and helm of "A.I." research directions— is still too infrequently, inconsistently, or halfheartedly applied.

Until we fix that, nothing like equitable healthcare will come from just slapping some "A.I." on it.

If you really wish to publish these, annotate the hell out of them so their meanings are on full display to those who read them.

If you really wish to reduce the problems of our modern civil society perpetuated in our fiction, just don’t publish these works anymore.

The approach of changing his work for modern audiences demonstrates his work is out of touch and maybe doesn’t deserve to remain in the perpetuity of our culture. We’ve moved past Dahl. Let his works rot.

#roalddahl ’censorship’ is really about whitewashing colonialism, racism, sexism and anti-semitism so that those administering Dahl’s works can continue to make money off his works and nothing more. Censoring his work only serves the oppressors who wish to pretend his works are entirely wholesome so they can keep the bucks rolling in. Shameful.

Turned a simple QGIS Processing model into a #DVC data-versioned #geoprocessing workflow

"Why is this great?" you may ask ❓

DVC tracks data, parameters, and code. If anything changes, we simply rerun the process and DVC will figure out which stages need to be recomputed and which can be skipped by re-using cached results.

This can lead to huge time savings compared to re-running the whole model 👩‍💻🥳
