Just a guy wot does the photos, writes and draws sometimes.

I added four more fonts to the Arcade font engine, bringing the total up to 183!

Shmups fans take note. =)

While mowing the wildly overgrown lawn yesterday I ran over this baby blue tongue skink. I was so relieved he was unscathed!

I picked him up, we had a moment, and I put him in a safer place across the yard.

Blue tongues are so cool. There are at least two adults living in my back yard.

A recent joystick purchase didn't fit my Sega arcade control panel, so I whipped up a 3D printable copy of Seimitsu's SE plate for 40mm sticks.

Had the very fun experience of an ambulance trip to the ER here in Japan. Kidney stones.

Don't do it, kids.

Great experience tho. Excellent EMTs and the staff at the hospital worked very hard to meet me half way (more like 90/10) on the language barrier.

This, so much this. Mastodon's real future, IMO, is a handful of large instances run by deep pocketed entities, and a handful of very small ones that churn in and out of existence.

ActivityPub, as described by the same article, is a more expensive RSS.

As bsky seems to be proving, social media is hard. But the idea of solo instances, and pods to store the stuff more resiliently than full stack apps, seems achievable and doable.

Bluesky, and what Bluesky is not. | Alexia (alt)

ko-fi ↑ Unrelated, but appreciated! Over the past 2-4 days, as many users have joined BlueSky, I've seen many people go mad about it, doubt the protocol that it's using and it's design or spread FUD based on half-truths they've heard about from others. As someone that is running their own PDS, has...

Sometimes you gotta go back to the good old metal. Tonight's soundtrack to this continuing apocalypse is Victory's 1989 release, Culture Killed the Native.

I recently received one of Taito's Egret II Mini joysticks, and I tore it apart almost as soon as I opened the box.

It's really cool inside! New stick mechanism, 4- and 8-way stick lock, Windows and MiSTer compatible.

Incredibly well made. Have a look!

Taito Egret II Mini Joystick

Taito's Egret Mini II Console has an optional joystick, and it's a modern wonder. New and excellent mechanism, and solid construction.

lol, get fucked Canon. I'll scan my porn with your devices if I want to.

(This from the EULA for Canon flatbed scanner software)

I go shopping. I wear a mask. One other person does the same.

But covid, fucking covid. The penalty for getting this wrong is just huge.

The screenshot is from a different, forgotten source, but gosh it resonates with me.

The haunting brain science of long Covid

In an essay by @WesElyMD, here's Matt Fitzgerald describing his life with long Covid: "It's terrifying. I mean, I've had to dig real deep. How much longer will I feel like this? I'm scared."

I can't really understand how Powerwolf, a metal band fronted by an opera singer, could do a cover of Alice Cooper's Poison, and make it so lifeless and flat.

I want to love it but it just seems so... first-draft. =/
