I went to the car wash today for the first time. Ever.

I even watched a video last night to prepare myself.

I want to go solo camping but I don’t want to go alone.

Maybe if I bring a plush with me it won’t feel so lonely… 🤔

Turns out a lot of the things that bring me joy these days are things that I liked in the 90s but decided I had “outgrown” one day.

One interest I did NOT expect to come back was Power Rangers. And yet, a cool dream I had last night planted the seeds for a cool reboot in my brain…

The Rangers have known each other since childhood but now all go to community college.

The suits are more explicitly biomechanical and enhance the user’s abilities. However, Jason become so preoccupied with becoming stronger that he accidentally kills a guy in self-defense. He resigns from the team and passes leadership to Zack, making him the new Red Ranger.

Trini unceremoniously dies in a car accident as a nod to Thuy Trang’s death IRL. Kimberly takes her place as the Yellow Ranger to honor her friend.

My favorite change is that Billy’s boyfriend, Tran, is the new Pink Ranger. The idea is Billy is gay but can “pass” as straight (like David Yost) but Tran is flamboyantly gay and wears pink as an act of bravery. I thought “Tran” was a male Filipino name but turns out it’s a Vietnamese surname. Oops.

Since replacing Trini with Tran will upset the gender ratio, the evil Green Ranger is now a girl named Olivia. She was a timid girl who liked to draw dragons, etc, but now acts to pit Jason and Zack against each other to cause chaos in the team.

The problems I have with this setup is that is that the Tommy/Kimberly relationship was central to the original team and their roles as the Green and Pink Rangers were iconic. I could just make Tran the new Yellow or Black Rangers but I’d hate to lose the symbolism of a male Pink Ranger. I also love the idea of him taking Billy for a ride over the city at night in the Pterodactyl Dinozord.

But also this is all made up and I’ll probably never write about it again, so there can be two Pink Ranger concepts simultaneously.

Me: I’ll show you my wedding outfit so you can tell me what’s wrong it.
Mom: Why? What’s wrong with it?
Me: There are always rules.
Mom: What rules?
Me: There. Are. Always. Rules.

5 Minutes Later:

Mom: You look good!
Me: Thanks!
…
Mom: Not sure that tie goes with that shirt…
Me: *Throws up hands*
