I seem to grasp at certain moments the nuance that divides bad from worse.

@timnitGebru Unfortunately, it has been the litmus test of our time for over 50 years now. No change.
@dangillmor I am, and I do.
@cdarwin Yet another example of the fact that what happens in the Arctic does not stay in the Arctic.
@anarchodelphis When studies suggested BA.2.86 did not have much immune escape and was not particularly infectious, I wondered what advantage it did have. Maybe the answer is that it has no advantage.
@davidbloomberg No, it's not a surprise, but I distrust any self-reporting from a narcissist, so it's difficult for me to see this as genuine scientific backing. It's still worthwhile, of course.
@djvanness @academicchatter @academicsunite Related (maybe): I have wondered about the high salaries of academic administrators marching up with the increasingly absurd salaries of business executives. Are these things directly related?
@ItsTrainingCatsAndDogs Do such stations still exist? I gave up on them close to 30 years ago because they either stopped playing music entirely or did as you describe. I'm guessing there is not one in the Americas that would play an Elliott Carter string quartet.
@TomMarcinko Also well worth reading Eduardo Galeano's Open Veins of Latin America.
@StillIRise1963 No one has ever reached the CVS pharmacy by phone. Many have tried, but none have succeeded.
@JoshuaHolland I need a drink. Well, OK, another drink.
