I mean. Look at this craziness.
Our backyard and neighborhood frequently has bears, bobcats, deer, coyotes, and more smaller critters, but this (about 100 yards from our house) is a first in the neighborhood. It might be the spirit of P-22
Two hour time lapse: me lighting the candles, all of us singing, the drinking of champagne, and watching the candles slowly fade and the dark envelop us all. Tomorrow the sun rises earlier.
Last moment before the lights go out and the candles get lit. Everyone is outside in the dark singing carols waiting to be let back in.

Lighting the candles on the tree tonight! It's really really hard to light a fresh tree on fire. Though we always try.
Step one is acquiring a tree the day before. Gotta be a fresh cut tree or the house might not survive the night. Christmas tree farms seem to keep closing; we used to have one in Pasadena but it closed. So we had to drive 45 minutes to Orange County but it closed. Tried a new one in Riverside but it was already closed so we drove 90 minutes away and found the perfect tree.
Night 2 of a 4 night stint at Keck Observatory. The weather forecast has been absolutely dismal. The actual weather, though, has been 😽
Shooting lasers in the sky, for science! We're observing Eurybates and it's tiny satellite Queta in preparation for the Lucy encounter in a few years. Laser allows us to correct much of the atmospheric turbulence and see a crisp view of the tiny satellite.
