Why are some people still staying at Twitter?
Which application are you using that operates on a P2P network?
No one can hack a blockchain, so no one can hack into a P2P network, right? Correct me if I’m wrong… I am testing these three decentralized applications: - Damus: Decentralized mobile version of Mastodon, using Nostr protocol. - WireMin: Decentralized version of FB + private messenger. - SimpleX: Private messenger. From my perspective, if they’re unhackable, then why not switch to these alternatives? Why keep Twitter or Facebook? Or maybe only use these decentralized applications when in need of a private environment? There would be no bans or censorship, and data leaks would be a thing of the past. I suppose what’s preventing us is that tech giants are trying hard to ensure their audiences don’t hear about these applications, and their fame of course. Plus, people might hesitate to migrate because not many are using them.
Mainstream Media: You want evidience huh? Here you are.
Gotta say, they’re quite skilled at directing attention the way they want. Using fabricated evidence in pictures, videos, and the words of interviewers, they claim these are documentaries. Then, spread the word everywhere. The thing is not just on mainstream media. Social media uses the same tricks as well. “Whoever controls the media controls the mind.” We need a place where we can learn about news without filtering, moderation, censorship.
Whats great & whats not so great about decentralized network?
I recently saw an review about this decentralized social platform or call it private messenging tool whatever named WireMin on lemmy (I think it got deleted tho). At first I thought it is the same as Twitter just in a decentralized way (another copy cat like Threads or Bluesky) since they described it as a social network but in the decentralized sturcture, but after I downloaded it, it is a whole different thing with Twitter, no matter the structure, page view or even their icon looks fresh and interesting. Some of the WireMin’s privacy-focused features: 1/ Decentralized, so NO collecting data and save it in a single cloud server, NO censorship, moderation, NO account banning. 2/ Anonymous ID, it does not require any personal info to create an account. NO email or phone number. 3/ Everything is End-to-end encrypted, dms, blog posts, chat space, file, picture transfers, etc. 4/ Disappearing message is supported. And some of the unique features that I found interesting and useful: 1/ Boasting a Discovery section for users to check out active chat space or feed space(for blog posting) 2/ Chat space can have unlimited members to join. 3/ A D-payment feature allows users to transfer BTC or ETH while chatting, but it is not a wallet tho. 4/ Fast & Unlimited file transfer. But there are some cons I found, and most of they is caused by decentralized sturcture. 1. Lack in real-time notification. 2. Can’t avoid NSFW, or ads. 3. If you lost your recovery phrase, then this account is gone. 4. Chat space owner can’t set any rules or remove any content. What are some other ‘Not great’ about decentralized network? Needs to be teach.
