As it would seem; the ID3s weren't damaged like I thought they were; just the file itself is encoded to 256kbps CBR. Other than that it's same as the 2004 version.
I was surprised when I loaded up an ID3 editor and found the original "Source" link in it's comment field....a field that players dont display.
