Farm boy, Vietnam era veteran, PhD statistics, and compulsive fact checker, convinced that everyone thinks they know more than they do, which media exploit to sell changes in audience behaviors to the people who control most of their money. Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen said, "the shortest path to a click is anger or hate.” I hope that Mastodon can crowdsource fact checking and reverse the trend toward increasing political polarization and violence.

What can you tell me about efforts to counter the increase in political violence engendered by for-profit Internet companies, esp. Facebook?

Philanthropists want proposals "to Support Reducing Nuclear Dangers". I've drafted a response that currently includes $30,000 to improve use of social media, including working to improve use of Mastodon and BlueSky.
