For a moment, I thought there was a cow in there.

I'd like to remind all Mastodon users that you can add a language filter to any follow relationship on Mastodon.

If you follow me and you don't speak German, you can easily remove my German posts from your timeline by adjusting the language settings.

Go to my profile page, select the dot menu and click "Change subscribed languages". Then select the languages that you speak.

This really is a hidden gem 💎 on Mastodon and not many people seem to know this feature

@LizFurtado 8) Don't go after equipment. You don't need much in general. Most things can be improvised, often with better results. No softbox needed, a basic studio light with some cloth in front of it can be a way better and more flexible "softbox"
9) f*ck the rule of thirds. It's a great thing for absolute beginners, but it's main function is to make sure nobody puts the main object straight in the middle.
@LizFurtado 4) flowers are a great no-no. Yes, I know, a lot of people tend to do it but once your "viewers" have seen all of your surrounding flowers it starts to wear off. Same for pets.
5) do portraits. Lots of them. Yes. People.
6) Read books and watch videos about setting light. You should be able to see (and [re]produce) all four basic light types.
7) Equipment is expensive. No, you don't need a set of lenses in 35mm, 50mm, 85mm. Rather go for something like 24mm, 50mm, 135mm.
@LizFurtado ok, a few (general) recommendations:
1) Landscape and Nature are great as a hobby, but completely unsuited if you (later on) want to photograph professionally
2) prime lenses. Don't even get used to zooms, people mistake zooming and walking/moving; while prime lenses with long focal lengths have wonderful bokehs and qualities.
3) don't listen to (most) other hobby photographers, professionals are the ones to take advice from, as hobby-graphers tend to hold up to myths and legends
@Photoist no prop, you'll most likely see the # in tomorrows trends.
@Photoist Your work shown here would be a great candidate for the Windowfriday/Fensterfreitag tag
Ritornando al discorso sulla semplicità in #fotografia. Questo è uno scatto che amo particolarmente e che ho avuto la fortuna di vedere dal vivo. Penso racchiuda la bellezza nella sua accezione più pura e semplice.

Starting off my Mastodon feed with a few of my personal #streetphotography classics.

This photo from 2017 has become a bit of a personal icon. In the years since I took the photo on 5th Ave in Midtown, I have received countless requests and comments about it. Curious to hear your thoughts, too - drop me some comments!
