A slightly more subtle improvement, mostly due to cleaning the specimen. Opatroides punctulatus, native to the Mediterranean region but adventive in California (where I collected it).
#entomology #beetle #insect #photographyThis morning's set of updated specimen photos.
#entomology #insect #beetle #photographyAm I supposed to be keeping up with all of the server politics and moving around based on that? That’s too similar to what used to happen on The Other Site when you’d be following someone who was following someone that someone you don’t know had an issue with, and people started blocking YOU for following the follower of the bad person but refused to tell you who they even were and you had no idea WTH was going on because you didn’t micromanage your feed. Don’t feel like doing that again.
Just a photography lighting test on a beetle.
#entomologyHere's the old photo of the same specimen. I cleaned off some of the debris, used better lighting (for more accurate color representation) and positioned it a bit better.
Tiny beetle photo. I believe it's a Scymnus.
#entomology #insect #beetle #photography@ellipsoptera I have the same question!
Today's Improved Insect Photo. The new photo revealed grooves on the elytra that weren't visible before!
#insect #entomology #photography #beetleMore improvement. Olla v-nigrum: first photo from iPhone, second from microscope (composite of two focus-stacked shots).
#entomology #beetle #photographyA bit of photographic improvement. Same specimen (Coccinella septempunctata): first photo taken with iPhone, second is a composite of two focus-stacked images from my microscope setup.
