@DaveRussell I look at the people with IQ's of 145+ (the people who get into and earn degrees from Harvard, Yale etc.) and the power and influence they exert and I strongly believe that a lot of our problems are due to the deference the rest of us give them. Some of this is envy. I'd like to be that smart and to have achieved what they have.. If these people were really smarter than the rest of us I'd have no problem with them running things. Paradoxically, many of them are quite stupid.

You ever read anything by Slavej Zizek. I downloaded the sample of his Less than Nothing. I concede that this guy is a lot smarter than me and knows much that I don't but I don't think he's worth reading. My general impression (from reading a few pages) is that Zizek, in the words of Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) in the movie Sudden Impact, is "a legend in his own mind."

The arguments in the line of cases beginning with Heller are plain camouflage for the real
'conservative' argument that the 'true' meaning of the second amendment is that citizens must
be able to arm themselves so as to be able to overthrow the government should the need arise. The
justices' failure to state so explicitly is merely their reluctance to shout f*ck in a crowded theater.

The meaning of crossing a picket line. An article I read about Dalton Trumbo and the 1960 Spartacus mentioned that President Kennedy, a month after his inauguration crossed a 'picket line' instigated by the American Legion in order to view the movie. The article while approving of Kennedy's role in ending blacklisting stated that crossing a picket line was 'not cool' for a Democrat and a civil rights advocate. This was not a 'picket line' in my book.

What type of philosophy did you specialize in? After taking the intro course I thought I might major or minor in philosophy. At that time analytic philosophy was prevalent so I signed up for Symbolic Logic. I barely passed and probably should have failed and that was the end of that.
